What is Tui Na?Tui Na is a bodywork therapy that was developed in /China over 2000 yeas ago. It works with the energy system in the body known as the meridian system. Like Acupuncture, Tui na works with the Qi (Chi) energy of the patient to bring a balanced state of health. But unlike acupuncture, no needles are used. The work is done entirely with the practitioner’s hands to help increase the beneficial flow of Qi through the patient’s meridian system. The practitioner of Tui na learns to diagnose the patient by feeling pulse. The pulse tells the practitioner which meridians may need stimulation and which may need to be subdued in order to bring the patient to a state of balanced health Today Tui na is used in hospitals through out China in conjunction with other forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Tui Na practitioners in China are treated with the same respect as doctors of acupuncture and herbology and often these modalities work hand in hand as a holistic approach to patient well-being. |
How is Tui Na Done? Tui na is the most common form of acupressure practiced in China. It means “push /grab” and involves vigorous body massage using techniques such as one finger manipulation, kneading rolling, rolling, vibration, stretching, tapotement, and friction to recharge the body’s energy level. Treatments can be done on a table, chair or floor mat, little or no oils are used, and the client is not required to disrobe. Loose fitting, light clothing is advised. The Sessions are designed to open the meridians, work specific areas of imbalance and then bring the entire body into balance. It is recommended that the client get regular treatments to maintain balance.
